Proponents of it believe, that if you have the opportunity and
do not disclose all the information they seek, you somehow lied.

If it is information they seek to use against you, WHY TELL THEM? ...that is NOT A LIE - no matter what they say.

I think there is some lie of omission. If someone is asking you a question and you act like your answering it and yet try to deceive..that is a lie of omission.

Here's the problem: Holding back of your commitment - they LOST THEIR LIVES TOGETHER because of it

dear mr Ed----- pondering on the quote you raised i do agree....and did not the Lord do that on occasions?...i dont mean deception in a derogatory way....but saying things so not everyone

could understand....i am not a bible scholar ...but i heard a pastor speak on the passage..and i am paraphrasing...."you will need to eat My Body and drink My Blood"....this pastor preached

in his opinion the Lord purposely said that to "thin out" the group of people...meaning purposely ( maybe ) that many might leave His presence just based on that statement....it seemed Jesus

did not concern Himself at all if He might be popular?

Dear mr Ed...i was thinking back to several accounts during WW2 in which Jewish sympathizers would intentionally omit the truth saying there are no Jewish people in this house when in fact
they were hiding some Jewish folk to save their lives from the German holocaust....very interesting topic that can have different scenarios?...I might hope i too would have the courage to do
same thing if i was hiding some Jewish people....also not sure the scenario i provided is within boundaries of this topic?...just a thought

I don't think you are understanding the premise here, the idea is:

They are saying you are somehow lying by omitting.
If you what you're saying is the truth, you're not lying.
It is really that simple... "the truth" doesn't become a lie.
